Last week we reported on the release of a new app developed by the Victorian WorkCover Authority to assist in reporting and making injury claims. This week one of our experienced workers compensation lawyers reviews the new app.
PROS
Easy to gather legal information regarding entitlements.
CONS
No ability to interact with your claims agent.
Overall Rating: Fair
WorkSafe have made their first attempt at providing an App for injured workers. Unfortunately, WorkSafe’s first attempt at providing an app for injured workers falls short in both service and delivery. VicClaim provides a useful summary of workers rights in an easy to read fashion on your phone or tablet. The App is more user friendly than WorkSafe’s outdated website and can be used by anyone, regardless of which insurer your WorkSafe claim is held by. The App helpfully provides links to forms and further information on the WorkSafe website.
Regrettably, the App does little else.
WorkSafe has missed a golden opportunity to allow workers and employers to interact with their claims handler online. It should be possible in this era of App design for workers to be able to handle their claims via their phones. Lodging Certificates of Capacity, Medical Expense claims, check on the status of a workers claim and any outstanding payments, should have been considered.
What is left is a mere summary of the information found on WorkSafe’s website, which, while is of benefit to workers and employers, doesn’t add anything new to clients’ ability to interact with Agents.
The app is available for free from the iTunes store at https://appsto.re/au/HbbZ2.i
