TAC claims during lockdown. Will your claim be affected?

If you have been hurt in a road accident, your recovery can be a rollercoaster of medical care, rehabilitation, and trying to return to your work and previous life. This can be difficult at the best of times, but in the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic there is more uncertainty than ever.

Victims of a motor vehicle accident can be confident that both the Transport Accident Commission (‘TAC’) who handle insurance claims brought by those injured in a transport accident, along with RCT Law, are open throughout the stage 4 lockdowns, even though working remotely.

RCT Law is able to advise on your rights and entitlements following a transport accident, which can include covering your medical expenses, and potentially your income while you are unable to return to work, as well as lump sum compensation.

To learn about the process of submitting a TAC claim, you can read our previous blog here: Making a TAC claim: How to do it and what to consider.

Current clients of the firm can be reassured that their claim will continue to progress in the current lockdown, although some things will be done differently. As our metropolitan offices are now closed during Stage 4 restrictions, you should contact us via email at enquiries@rctlaw.com.au or phone on 1300 366 441 only to obtain an update on your matter.

Similarly, face-to-face meetings with the TAC are no longer going ahead, but the TAC is still available for support and to manage claims.

TAC suspends face-to-face examinations

Notably, the TAC has announced that face-to-face medico-legal examinations will not be able to proceed under the present restrictions, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as a significant deterioration in health or acute financial hardship. Where possible, these examinations will proceed via alternative means including via videoconference, but where it is not possible, they will be adjourned until have the stage 4 lockdown has ended.

Both current and future clients should not hesitate to contact RCT Law for assistance with their TAC claims during the pandemic. Our first consultation is free, and afterwards we work on a ‘No Win, No Fee OR Expenses’ basis.

If you have a question about starting a TAC claim or managing an existing claim under the current Stage 4 restrictions, please call our office on 1300 366 441 for a free, no-obligation appraisal of your claim.
